Turkish film director Burak Çevik’s film “Belonging,” which was filmed in Turkey, Canada, and France, is one of the nominations for the full-length movie competition at the Golden Apricot film festival. The film’s art director, Dilshad Aladag, presented details about the film and said that it’s about carrying out geographical tests of different locations according to statements given by suspects for a criminal case that occurred 15 years beforehand. Then, the film presents the night that the couple who committed the murder met.
Dilshad Aladag said that the director is an open-minded and free-thinking individual. He was particular about making sure that the film would be understandable for a foreign audience. He added that a lot of effort was put into making sure that the audience could understand what the director had been through.
Dilshad Aladag also said that “Belonging” will be presented at different film festivals across the world, but that will not be the end of its presentation. The film has even been presented in New York, but it still has not been presented in Istanbul.
Answering Aravot Daily’s question of what the most touching expert opinion of the film was, Dilshad Aladag said that he has difficulty thinking of just one example, but he emphasized that “Belonging” has been considered to be a courageous step in the film industry in Turkey since it goes against the traditional language of film. They will continue on this path for future films as well.
