The Gyumri drama theater named after Vardan Achemyan, which has been undergoing renovation, will open with Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s ‘Eyes of a Blue Dog’ in Armenian as well as English in a brand new hall. Although it seemed that it would be impossible to present Marquez and his prophetic words in such a small space, the demand was high; it is one of the most popular productions shown in the small hall named after Mher Mkrtchyan.
The director of the theater, Ludwig Harutyunyan, told Aravot Daily, “Our theater frequently invites directors and actors to uphold the tradition. We decided that we will invite Inna Khojamiryan to play in Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s ‘Eyes of a Blue Dog.’ Arsen Mikayelyan will play the man and it will be presented on September 25th in the Mher Mkrtchyan Hall as an innovation in theater. We also intend to have it presented in English.”
When asked if the reason for the play being in English is because of tourists, Ludwig Harutyunyan said, “Both for tourists and to present it in festivals. Of course, it can also be presented in Armenian, but when we go to festivals, it would be good for us to have the opportunity to have it in a foreign language, especially since our actors are able to speak it. I believe that Inna and Arsen will overcome any difficulties and that we will have an interesting production.”
