Chamonix, France and Dilijan, Armenia will become sister cities. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian announced this at the Dilijan municipality. He played a large role in this initiative. “This is a great step. The Summit of Minds takes place every year in Chamonix, and now the sister conference will take place in Armenia. The founders have agreed to work together with us. The summit takes place in the autumn in Chamonix, but we have decided to hold the one in Armenia at the beginning of the summer,” the president said.
Armen Sarkissian said that Chamonix is a classic example of how a small city can become successful. It only has 10,000 residents, but 5 million tourists visit every year. He also noted that Chamonix has invited representatives from Dilijan to visit in order to discuss their vision for future collaboration. “I am now passing on the project to you. I hope that this collaboration will serve the region, the city, and Armenia overall. If the small town of Chamonix has 5 million tourists, why can’t Dilijan have at least 1 million?”
According to Armen Sarkissian, Dilijan is a city that has old and beautiful traditions, but new traditions are beginning to form there. He told the governor and the mayor that they need to form their regional strategy in such a way that they will not fail. “Dilijan needs to be a cultural and intellectual city for tourists.”
