On 21 June, in the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2019, the EU-funded project “Integrated Support for Sustainable Economic Development in Rural Mountainous Areas of Armenia” presented its results at a closing event in Geghamasar.
Thanks to the EU support, a new biogas plant and greenhouse were built in Geghamasar, ensuring jobs for locals and making use of renewable energy. The “Shen” NGO was responsible for the implementation of the project. It contributed to local economic growth in six communities in Armenia – Geghamasar, Areguni, Pambak, Shaki, Shaghat and Angeghakot – by increasing regional competitiveness and creating sustainable jobs.
Andrea Baggioli, International Aid/Cooperation Officer of the EU Delegation to Armenia, emphasised: “During the EU Sustainable Energy Week in 2019 we’ve had sustainable energy days throughout Armenia to set a leading example to prioritise energy efficiency, not only in the fight for climate change but promoting the use of renewable energy through innovative technologies.”
