Kocharyan’s lawyer on bringing troops from Artsakh: ‘Prosecutor General had nothing to say about our arguments’

August 14,2019 19:29

Second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan’s lawyer, Hayk Alumyan, believes that the BBC’s article on the March 1st case was simply another attempt at playing upon the public’s emotions.

Hayk Alumyan spoke to reporters at Sputnik Armenia about claims that Robert Kocharyan ordered soldiers to be brought to Yerevan from Artsakh on March 1st, 2008. Robert Kocharyan is accused of overthrowing constitutional order. Alumyan initially reminded reporters of how one of the court sessions took place behind closed doors when the court was still investigating Kocharyan’s detainment. “Because they needed to investigate our arguments regarding bringing in troops. We needed to present facts that should not have become a topic of discussion for the public,” Alumyan emphasized, and added that they presented their arguments during that session. “The Prosecutor agreed with those facts. I want to emphasize this.”

In response to a reporter’s question about whether or not troops were brought from Artsakh, Alumyan noted, “If I answer that question, it will mean that I have publicized what was said during that private session. When we presented these arguments, the prosecutor had no arguments- he had nothing to say. Now, I unfortunately cannot answer this question publicly. And if I half-answer it, everyone will make their own comments.”

Alumyan gave a short response to Samvel “Oganovsky” Karapetyan’s statement: “No division or soldier from the Artsakh Armed Forces entered Armenia at that time.”
