The head of the Armenian community in Novocherkassk, Russia, Ara Arsenyan, made a 17 million dollar investment in Armenia. Novocherkassk has 5,500 Armenians. He will build a hotel in Tsaghkadzor.
This was announced when Novocherkassk and Gyumri were declared sister cities. Arsenyan was with Mayor Igor Zyuzin, who had visited Armenia to participate in Gyumri Day.
“If everything goes as planned and if I am allowed to, I will also build a ski lift. Give business owners the opportunity to invest and you will see how it develops,” Arsenyan said to the mayor of Gyumri and workers at the municipality during a meeting.
Mayor of Gyumri Samvel Balasanyan asked Arsenyan to also pay attention to Gyumri because this historical city is captivating for tourists. The mayor said that he is prepared to listen, discuss, and help if there are any suggestions for investments.

Aravot Daily asked the businessman about how Armenians are living in Novocherkassk, what positions they occupy, and whether there are high-ranking Armenian officials. Ara Arsenyan said, “Armenians live very well. They are the second largest ethnic group there after the Russians. We have an Armenian school and we are building an Armenian church that is 27 meters tall. The community did not have an Armenian church before; the closest one was in Rostov. And I don’t think having any high-ranking officials is important.”
When asked about how the Prime Minister always calls upon Diaspora Armenians to come to Armenia and make investments, the businessman joked, “Well, we’re here.” He was also asked about what the other business owners in the community think and whether he will have to convince them that Armenia is a secure place to make investments before convincing them. “I believe that’s what I will have to do.”
