The decision made by the Constitutional Court regarding second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan’s case has some nuances that would be better for lawyers to comment on. The Prime Minister’s spokesperson, Vladimir Karapetyan, answered Aravot Daily’s question after the government session. “What is the government supposed to do? If the court’s decision deals with the executive branch, then your question would be understandable, but we have nothing to do with this.”
In response to Aravot’s observation about how politicians and activists claim that if changes in the judicial system were made sooner, the Constitutional Court wouldn’t have made such a decision, Karapetyan said, “It would have been better if the changes in the judicial system happened sooner. But I assure you that we are moving quickly.”
Regarding the observation that opposition members are demanding a tense autumn and even a change in leadership, Karapetyan said that these demands are not serious. “If you look outside, you’ll see what’s happening. The opposition cannot gather more than 20 people. It does not have that many supporters in reality.”
