“Those who returned to Armenia from Germany on a chartered flight were informed beforehand that they were returning to Armenia,” said the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Migration Services Press Secretary, Nelly Davtyan. However, many of those who had been deported informed reporters that they did not know why.
“All citizens were informed about this in the appropriate way. Deportation is a result of several processes and it is the final phase. It means that the individual was residing in another country illegally, and when someone becomes an illegal immigrant, they are required to return to their home country. Our citizens, particularly those who came home on a mandatory flight, were people who applied for asylum in Germany and were denied. As soon as they are denied, they must leave the country. If they return voluntarily, they will receive privileges such as monetary aid up to 1,500 USD and compensation for living expenses. However, the people who returned are those who came back in the most extreme methods.”
Nelly Davtyan also noted that the way to reach Europe legally is through reuniting a family. This is through a marriage that took place with a legal resident of the European Union. Other ways include refugee status or student visas. The methods are limited. “All other methods are considered to be illegal.”
