Why have former officials accused of corruption not been arrested after a year and a half? Why haven’t they returned the money that they stole? Someone present at the New York meeting with the Armenian community asked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about this.
“Former Minister of Environment Aram Harutyunyan, who is accused of taking large amounts of bribes, took advantage of his position as a deputy and of the fact that the Republican Party did not vote in favor of his imprisonment for the first time. He left the country. Mihran Poghosyan, who is in the middle of a criminal case, escaped Armenia and is currently being investigated. Serzh Sargsyan’s brother, Levon Sargsyan, who is accused of the North-South incident, also left Armenia and is being investigated. Manvel Grigoryan, Gagik Khachatryan, and Robert Kocharyan are all in jail,” Pashinyan responded. The Diaspora Armenians gave Pashinyan a round of applause for his answer.
Continuing his response to the questions, Nikol Pashinyan said that he is also not satisfied with the state of the fight against corruption, which is what radical changes in power structures were based on.
Pashinyan gave several hints, saying that he noticed individuals in the law enforcement system will look at a case one or two times, and then say, ‘Ok, let’s agree with this person a little bit, and a little bit with this one.”
