Palais in pink to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month

September 30,2019 22:12

The Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg was illuminated in pink tonight – in a special initiative to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The building, which houses the headquarters of the Council of Europe, will stay illuminated throughout the week of the PACE plenary session – just one of a series of events aimed at raising public awareness of this illness, which affects one woman in eight, and ways to fight it.

Throwing the switch on the illumination, PACE President Liliane Maury Pasquier said rose was “a symbol of hope” for all women battling breast cancer. “They need our support for equal access to the best treatment available. And they need the active support of the whole of society to return to a ‘normal’ life after treatment.” During the day, the President of the Assembly and dozens of its members showed their support for the event by wearing the pink ribbon distributed for the occasion.
