“This is one of the most important events in IT. The government, through establishing the IT sector as one of its biggest priorities, showed that information technology needs to be included in several other sectors, including justice, state government, and the economy. We will do everything to make sure that this happens,” Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Avinyan told reporters during a briefing at WCIT 2019. He said that the IT sector in Armenia has grown by 28 percent over the past eight years.
According to Avinyan, WCIT 2019 is a very high-profile event. “The opportunities provided by the IT sector are unlimited in Armenia, too. The most important thing that we can gain from this event is our connections. I am convinced that many companies will start to become interested in investing in Armenia. And our homework needs to involve making changes in the educational system. Coding needs to be taught in schools from a young age.”
The Deputy Prime Minister added that additional funding has been allocated to create engineering labs in schools. “They will be available in 50 percent of schools.”
