“The situation at the border is stable and secure. Tension and incidents have always taken place and they will continue. However, the number of gunshots fired has decreased,” Armed Forces Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Artak Davtyan told reporters regarding recent activity along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
He noted that there has not been any critical changes in the Noyemberyan region. “There are elements of tension, but this can be considered to be normal for the border. Sometimes there is more tension, and sometimes there is less. There were gunshots a half hour ago that had no purpose. After we responded with gunfire, Azerbaijan stopped firing. We will respond appropriately.”
Artak Davtyan sadly noted that the Armenian side had three wounded soldiers and one casualty recently as a result of Azerbaijan’s actions. “But the proper response was given towards Noyemberyan. However, it sometimes is not in our best interest to announce every time that we have responded to enemy fire.”
