Vasken Aram Sulukdjian is a French-Armenian who worked as a pilot for many years. He told Aravot Daily in an interview that he had worked as a pilot for Boeing. Now he is retired and he enjoys traveling. This is why he came to Armenia, and according to him, he is bearing witness to a different Armenia. Vasken Aram Sulukdjian noted that his father was a soldier. He added that his father and mother were born in Adana, and his ancestors left Adana for Lebanon, which is where he was born.
We met him by the National Gallery of Armenia. Vasken Aram Sulukdjian said that even though he is an Armenian, he did not receive an Armenian education, which is why he speaks in colloquial Armenian. But he also emphasized that his Armenianness was passed on to him. He wrote a book in French about Armenians, and its history began 10-12 thousand years ago and continued to the middle of the 20th century. He gave the book to Catholicos Aram I, who had visited him.
Sulukdjian also spoke about Komitas. “The poor man went crazy and died from sadness.” He also spoke about other great Armenians and expressed pity. “We did not idolize our kings the same way other nations did.”
