EU NEIGHBOURS. On 9 October, the Armenian capital Yerevan hosted a conference ‘Living Smart – Empowering Youth’. Organised by the Government of Armenia, in cooperation with the EU and in the presence of the country’s President, Armen Sarkissian, who also delivered a keynote speech, the event was dedicated to the 10th Anniversary of Eastern Partnership.

Luc Devigne, Deputy Managing Director for Europe, Central Asia, Eastern Partnership, Russia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE at the European External Action Service, delivered a keynote speech at the conference.

“The EU supports youth by strengthening the SME [small and medium-sized enterprises] sector, attracting investment, creating jobs and by fostering the entrepreneurial potential of young people,” Devigne said. “Our programmes help them develop the skills necessary for the labour market: Between 2017 and 2020, the EU has invested over €340 million in youth programmes across the Eastern Partnership countries.”

Around 15 Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) from Armenia attended the event. They addressed Luc Devigne and President Armen Sarkissian with number of questions on youth-related topics.

The EU Ambassador, Andrea Wiktorin, delivered opening remarks during the event: “The EU stands ready to continue providing foreign exchange educational opportunities for young Armenians, in particular under the ERASMUS+ programme, for the benefit of Armenia’s future and its prosperity.”
