ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s Embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus and General Consulate in Aleppo are working on a heightened mode, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan told reporters today at a press briefing. She informed that the Armenian diplomatic representatives keep in touch with the community structures of Qamishli and northern regions of Syria.
“All possible steps are developed and taken for all our compatriots, who want to be transported, to receive assistance on this process. We are receiving operative information about the conditions of our compatriots from our diplomatic representatives”, she said.
According to the reports, the number of Armenians living in Syria’s northern regions comprises 3000, they mainly live in Qamishli and Malakia cities. Naghdalyan said no military operations have taken place near these settlements, and at the moment there is no task for Armenians to leave these territories.
On October 9 Turkish forces launched an offensive in Syria’s north-east.

The Armenian foreign ministry released a statement noting that Armenia condemns the military invasion by Turkey in north-east Syria, which would lead to deterioration of regional security, losses among civilians, mass displacement and eventually to a new humanitarian crisis.
The international community also condemned Ankara’s actions in Syria.
