As a result of the Turkish military operation in northern Syria, the Armenian Embassy in Syria and the Armenian Consulate in Aleppo are working in an emergency regime. “We are in constant contact with organizations in the Syrian-Armenian community. They are initiating the possible steps so that we can support our compatriots who want to move. We are also aware of the humanitarian situation. If people wish to move, we will support them with all the essential tools,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan told reporters.
According to her, approximately 3,000 Armenians live in two neighborhoods in northern Syria, which is where the Turkish military operations took place. “There are no military clashes in the area as of right now. Therefore, the issue of moving our compatriots is not part of the plan as many people have suggested.”
Regarding the opinion held by some experts that Armenia needs to send troops to Syria, Anna Naghdalyan said, “We are discussing different scenarios, including ways to support our compatriots and the people of Syria, but that is not one of the options that is being discussed.”
