EU NEIGHBOURS. On 15 October, Armenia’s capital Yerevan hosted the 18th meeting of the National Policy Dialogue (NPD) steering committee, focusing on the country’s water resource management.
The meeting was co-chaired by the country’s Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, and organised with the support of European Union Water Initiative Plus (EUWI+) project.
Improvements in legislation and river basin management planning were heralded as the main achievements of EUWI+.
The participants acknowledged the importance of the intersectoral NPD process taking place over the past 10 years and contributing to the development of integrated water resource management in Armenia.
The EUWI+ project assists Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to bring their legislation closer to EU policy in the field of water management, with a main focus on the management of transboundary river basins.
It supports the development and implementation of pilot river basin management plans, building on the improved policy framework and ensuring close participation from local stakeholders.
