Levon Zurabyan: ‘October 27th and March 1st were the most tragic attacks on our statehood over the past 20 years’

October 28,2019 11:35

Vice President of the Armenian National Congress, Levon Zurabyan, answered a reporter’s question at the Komitas Pantheon about whether it’s worth reopening the October 27th case. “We’ve fought for 20 years to prevent this case from remaining unresolved. We’ve been working for 20 years to ensure that we condemn the authorities for closing the case. The organizers have closed the case and allowed it to be forgotten. We have also fought all these years to find out who did this. And, of course, this case needs to be reopened. The true organizers need to be found and punished. I can say that October 27th and March 1st were the most tragic attacks on our statehood over the past 20 years, and both cases need to be reopened. The March 1st case was already reopened and we have seen the process. Our state will not develop as normal as long as the October 27th and March 1st cases remain unresolved.”

When Aravot Daily asked if it’s possible for Nairi Hunanyan to be released based on the condition that he provide a testimony, Levon Zurabyan said, “I don’t think it’s possible for such a trade to happen in this case. Everyone needs to be punished.” When reminded of a statement made by the head of the National Assembly Committee on Defense and Security, Andranik Kocharyan, that he is not yet prepared to see Nairi Hunanyan released since Hunanyan has not been working with the pre-investigative body, Levon Zurabyan responded, “I do not agree.”
