Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation led by UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary A. DiCarlo.
Welcoming Mrs. DiCarlo to Armenia, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of close multifaceted cooperation between the Government of Armenia and the UN. Nikol Pashinyan highly valued the United Nations’ assistance provided to our country on the way to implementing institutional reforms, including the Electoral Code amendments. The Premier emphasized the importance of amending the Electoral Code in a way to ensure fair and transparent elections. The Head of Government stressed that the Armenian government intends to push ahead with the reforms aimed at developing and strengthening democracy.
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs hailed the ongoing democratic reforms in Armenia and reaffirmed the United Nations’s willingness to work more closely with the Armenian government. Rosemary DiCarlo congratulated the Prime Minister on Armenia being elected a member of the Human Rights Council and wished the Armenian colleagues every success.
The parties discussed a broad range of issues related to the program of bilateral cooperation. Nikol Pashinyan and Rosemary DiCarlo referred to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process and emphasized the need for building an atmosphere conducive to mutual trust. The interlocutors took the opportunity to exchange views on other issues pertaining to regional security.
