ԵՌԱԳՈՅՆ. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) has called for the US Senate to take up two House measures condemning Turkey, the Washington Post reports.
“i have been a long-time believer that the Armenian Genocide Resolution should be passed. Turkey doesn’t like to hear that, because the truth hurts,” the Senator told reporters.
The statement comes after the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to recognize the Armenian Genocide and sanction Turkey.
In April 2019 Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Democrat Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and former presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced Armenian Genocide legislation reaffirming proper U.S. recognition and remembrance of this crime and rejecting U.S. complicity in its denial.
