“Arayik, leave” and “The Minister of Education overthrew education” were among the slogans used during a protest organized by the youth wing of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation in front of the government building. They were demanding the resignation of the Minister of Education and Science, Arayik Harutyunyan.
“It is time for the Minister of Education to go home. We came to say goodbye,” the youth said. They came to the protest with drums.
A member of the Armenian Youth Federation’s central administration, Gor Sargsyan, said that Arayik Harutyunyan crossed the red line. “We all know that there are problems in the education sector that come from the former authorities. Arayik Harutyunyan was appointed to the position after changes were made. We have all seen that no changes were made over the past year and a half. As a backdrop for all of this, we see that the minister funds films that are in accordance with his own system of values that I, as a citizen of Armenia, am not prepared to pay taxes for.”

Gor Sargsyan said that he is not only referring to the “Meli” film, but also to many others. “The issue is what our government and the Ministry of Education and Science is prioritizing and funding. Especially considering all the problems we have that can be resolving with the proper funding so that the lives of our citizens and students can improve. I personally will not tolerate this.”
According to him, the fact that Armenian language and literature classes are being removed from universities and will become voluntary, as well as the fact that history textbooks will be removed from schools shows that the minister should no longer work in that position.
