‘Everyone understands that Armenia will not sign anything without Artsakh’s permission’: Sergey Lavrov

November 11,2019 17:31

“The list of participants in the negotiations process need to agree with all sides. Artsakh participated in negotiations during the early phases. In one stage, the authorities of Armenia, particularly one of the former presidents, decided that Yerevan would represent Artsakh’s interests. In any case, we can only come to a resolution if the process results in general agreements. Everyone understands that no agreements or compromises can be made without the permission of the people of Artsakh and that Armenia will not sign anything without their permission,” Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov told reporters during his official visit to Yerevan. He was answering a question regarding how Russia, as a member of the CSTO, feels about Armenian authorities’ belief that Artsakh needs to return to the negotiations table. Lavrov spoke about Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s approach that the conflict resolution needs to be acceptable for Armenia, Artsakh, and Azerbaijan, and added, “It is difficult to argue with that.”
