Tense discussions were held on November 12th between Prosperous Armenia deputy Gevorg Petrosyan and members of the My Step faction. Afterward, news spread that Gagik Tsarukyan escorted Gevorg Petrosyan from the parliament building and My Step deputy Vagharshak Hakobyan stated that he believes Gagik Tsarukyan was holding a discussing with Gevorg Petrosyan.
Head of Prosperous Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan was asked whether he would confirm or deny that. He said, “I do not have anything to deny. You can all see what took place yesterday. No one was insulted. You can see Prosperous Armenia’s fundamentals, approach, and perspective, which Gevorg Petrosyan presented respectfully, and understand that there was nothing insulting about it. I met with Petrosyan and we went to a meeting together. Nothing else happened. None of the conclusions or fantasies that people are spreading are true.”
Aravot Daily asked Tsarukyan if he agrees with Arman Abovyan’s statement, that “Praise Gevorg Petrosyan, he drafted a law by himself and shocked everyone.” Tsarukyan responded, “I can say yes, praise him, Petrosyan Gevorg is wonderful. He presented us correctly as an Armenian Christian nation, the first Christian nation… our families, church, sacredness, the Bible… the possibility of homosexuals adopting children and raising them is unacceptable for us. Who can imagine what kind of child that would be? We are a traditional nation and that is unacceptable for Prosperous Armenia, starting with Tsarukyan. Let them say what they want to. Let them say that we’re backwards. But that’s unacceptable for us.”
Upon the observation that My Step deputies said that this has never been an issue, Tsarukyan said, “Ok, so it didn’t happen before. We’re saying that we should draft a law that shows this is truly one of our nation’s values. It’s our history. Let’s draft a law and close this issue forever. If they want to accept the Istanbul Convention to fight against violence, let’s accept an Armenian People’s law against violence.”
