‘You have such high personal ratings that if you tell people to quit smoking, they will do it’: Nikol Pashinyan was asked to buy a bond

November 15,2019 21:25

“You have such high personal ratings that if you tell people to quit smoking, they will do it. I think you should buy a bond so we can show how easy it is to do so on live video. I believe that there will be some activity as a result,” an American Chamber of Commerce in Armenia board member, Karen Zakaryan, told Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the annual Chamber of Commerce conference. Then, Zakaryan began to praise Nikol Pashinyan for speaking about the financial market, but added that the government is slowing down and are falling behind from what the Prime Minister said.

Karen Zakaryan also expressed dissatisfaction that the government did not approve of the My Step deputies’ initiative to get rid of value-added taxes from the work of brokers. The Prime Minister half-jokingly said that inertia is a powerful force and the government used the force of inertia to reject the initiative. But he said that the government has planned a discussion on this issue for next week. The Prime Minister believes that there is a secret room in the government building where, according to him, an old man is sitting and rejecting every initiative.

Nikol Pashinyan said that he is a reformist, but he is also in favor of discussing all sides of reforms so that they will not be useless because the public did not understand their meaning.

Nikol Pashinyan ignored the suggestion to buy a bond. He only explained that buying bonds can be very effective. “There are people who have money, but they aren’t business owners. They don’t want to open businesses or they don’t have enough money to do so. Developing the market for bonds is also a good thing because people will be able to generate money without having to stop working. It is difficult to invest in such institutions, but we will do so without rushing.

Pashinyan promised that the type of environment needs to be established in Armenia that becoming rich will not be seen as a bad thing anymore, especially since there are business owners who are ready to become rich legally.
