Suspect arrested in fatal stabbing of taxi driver outside Burger King in downtown LA

abc7.com. DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A suspect has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of a taxi driver who was found dead Friday night in the parking lot of a Burger King in downtown Los Angeles.

Police say the suspect took a cab from Union Station to the Burger King at Cesar Chavez and Grand avenues Friday night around 6 p.m.

After they arrived to the parking lot, he then stabbed the driver and attempted to steal the cab, police say.

But he couldn’t find the key fob and instead ran away on foot.

The driver, later identified as Oganes Papazyan, 68, of Burbank, died at the scene.

Detectives investigated and were able to produce and distribute surveillance images of the suspect. Officers on patrol in the area of the murder found a man resembling the suspect on Sunday in the area of the 500 block of North Main Street.

They took him into custody and brought him back to the Central Police Station. Detectives interviewed him and then placed him under arrest and booked him for murder.

The suspect was identified as Daniel Victor Torres, 32, a Los Angeles resident. He was being held on $2 million bail.

“Great police work by your @LAPDCentralArea officers and detectives has resulted in the quick arrest of this suspect wanted for the brutal murder of a taxi driver in #DTLA this past Friday evening,” LAPD Commander Marc Reina tweeted.

Papazyan leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
