“The leader who has not been elected and who has usurped authority is evil for everyone, not just for Armenia,” Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly and My Step deputy Alen Simonyan told Aravot Daily in agreement with Nikol Pashinyan.
During his meeting with the Armenian community in Milan, Nikol Pashinyan said, “The Prime Minister, regardless of who they are, who does not have the people’s trust is an evil for the country. A leader who does not have the trust of the people and the nation is an evil for the country, just as all the leaders of Armenia have been since 1996, when they took authority without having the trust of the people and they tried to hold on to that authority. As long as we are here, such authorities and such a situation will never take place again.”
Levon Ter-Petrossian was the leader of Armenia in 1996, and the Armenian National Congress responded to Nikol Pashinyan’s statement by saying that he must have fought actively 12 years ago for evil to come to power.
According to Alen Simonyan, “If you are referring to Levon Ter-Petrossian, he was elected President in 1991 and was not evil. People had their doubts about the elections of 1996 and I believe that the main reason for his resignation in 1998 was the realization that the elections were not completely fair.”
