(Armradio)- The 19th century Armenian Surp Asdvadzadzin Church in Gurun district of Sivas (Sebastia) will reopen as a museum, Akunq.net quotes Turkish sources as saying.
The General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums has provided 3,987,000 TL (about $700.000) for reconstruction works, said Gurun Mayor Nami Ciftci.
At different times the church has been used as a prison, movie theater, storeroom, and wedding hall.
After reconstruction is completed, the 2․615-square-meter building will be transformed into a city museum and function as a cultural events hall.
The Mayor hopes the reopened church will help boost the development of tourism in the region.
