‘The benefits of a settlement would be considerable for the region’: Jonathan Lacote

December 05,2019 19:32

France is one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. Aravot Daily asked the French ambassador to Armenia, Jonathan Lacote, about his opinion of the authorities’ policies regarding the Artsakh conflict resolution, as well as whether or not France has hopes that the conflict will be resolved peacefully in the near future.

“What I measure is the weight and the cost of this conflict for Armenia, for its budget, its economy, and its residents, especially for the young men who carry out long, hard and dangerous military service on the front line. This is a reality known by every Armenian family.

France, in conjunction with the other co-chairing states of the OSCE Minsk Group, is working towards a peaceful and negotiated resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict cannot have a military solution and a peaceful solution must be found around the negotiating table. The benefits of a settlement would be considerable for the region”, the ambassador said.
