“It is important that the entire legislative body of the US government has recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide. All that’s left is for the executive body to follow the will of the legislative body, which I believe is just a matter of time,” Bright Armenia faction leader Edmon Marukyan told journalists regarding the US Senate’s adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. He emphasized that the resolution does not have any legal power, but it has political meaning.
“Trump is a president who has never spoken about genocide recognition, but the Senate recognized the Armenian Genocide during his administration. This is an interesting circumstance. The current president can follow this resolution,” Edmon Marukyan said.
According to him, it’s likely that US President Donald Trump will use the term ‘genocide’ in April. “But if he uses the term, the question of ‘what next?’ will arise. Therefore, it is not necessary to create an agenda that will cause society to ask questions. This is a process we are undergoing to make sure that the world recognizes the Armenian Genocide.”
