L.M., born in 1988, was sold from the Republican Maternity Hospital to a couple that was unable to have children. Doctors told the child’s biological mother that the baby was stillborn. L.M.’s cousin spoke about this with Aravot Daily. According to him, Razmik Abrahamyan was the head doctor at the Republican Maternity Hospital in 1988.
The Director of Reproductive Health, Perinatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology Republican Institute, Razmik Abrahamyan, was arrested on December 18th as part of a preliminary agreement after being accused of illegally separating children from their parents.
According to Razmik Abrahamyan’s biography, head obstetrician of the Republic of Armenia Ministry of Health Razmik Abrahamyan was appointed Director of the new gynecology department of the Republican Clinical Hospital. In 1988, he was appointed head doctor of the Republican Clinical Maternity Hospital.
“L.M.’s biological mother was told that her child was stillborn. This woman already had four daughters and L.M. was her fifth. Her husband did not want to have a fifth daughter. The woman’s husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law did not want the child and told doctors at the maternity hospital to tell her that her child was stillborn, which is what they did,” Harut Farisyan told Aravot Daily.

According to Farisyan, his uncle’s wife was registered as being pregnant at the Republican Maternity Hospital and documents were forged to prove that she allegedly gave birth. “They weren’t buying something from the story. After all, this was a child. How could the head doctor not be aware of what was happening? My uncle’s wife was in the hospital and they told her that she was pregnant. They presented the situation as such that L.M. was my uncle’s daughter. This was all organized through documents and money. However, I cannot say how much money they paid for this child.”
Harut Farisyan’s aunt and uncle died several years ago, but L.M. recently returned to Armenia from Germany.
