MES develops its capacities in the field of the elimination of the consequences and response to chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear accidents

On January 15 the meeting of the experts of Chemical, Biological, Radioactive and Nuclear Accidents Readiness Project of Disaster Reduction Agency of the Department of Defense of the USA Embassy and Project Manager Alexis Robinson with the Executive Staff of the Rescue Service of MES and specialists of the Radioactive, Chemical and Biological Situation Monitoring Division of Civil Defense and Organization of the Elimination of Disaster Consequences of the Rescue Service was held in the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The representatives of the Security Council Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present at the meeting.

The aim of the meeting was the discussion of the implementation plan of the readiness project of the elimination of consequences and response to Chemical, Biological, Radioactive and Nuclear accidents in the Republic of Armenia by the Disaster Reduction Agency of the Department of Defense of the USA Embassy.

Vrezh Gabrielyan, r/s General-Major, Director of the Rescue Service welcomed the guests and expressed hope that the project would contribute to capacity building in the field of the elimination of the consequences and response to Chemical, Biological, Radioactive and Nuclear accidents.

A. Robinson, Manager of Chemical, Biological, Radioactive and Nuclear Accidents Readiness Project of Disaster Reduction Agency of the Department of Defense of the USA Embassy, represented the project. According to it provision of appropriate equipment is envisaged, which give a chance to identify and detect the location of chemical, radioactive and biological disasters and implement monitoring. In the framework of the project personal protective means, as well as other equipment needed in the field would be provided.

In the framework of the project the group of the Armenian specialists will be trained by the American expert team and will acquire skills to operate the equipment. The project is envisaged to finish in 2022.

Further phases of the implementation of the project were discussed at the meeting.
