“I am surprised by Serzh Sargsyan’s request to leave him alone, to put it lightly. He needed to have left us alone a long time ago, but he isn’t. I do not understand why Serzh Sargsyan is asking journalists to leave him alone,” Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan told journalists regarding a statement made by third President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan at the funeral of the former National Security Service Director, Georgi Kutoyan.
Alen Simonyan posed a question. “Why did they use a funeral as an opportunity to criticize the authorities? Then they claimed that they wouldn’t politicize it. I think that this topic has been exhausted. It is not a pleasant one.” As far as what he meant by “leaving us alone,” the Vice Speaker said, “He is not even leaving his political party members alone; he refuses to resign as the leader of the party and he makes strange political statements. That is how he is not leaving us alone. Not to mention the fact that he hasn’t left us alone in the past.”
When asked about what would change if Serzh Sargsyan were to resign from his position, Alen Simonyan said, “Perhaps the Republican Party would have a chance to be reborn and have a new generation join its ranks.”
