‘They deprived 45 people of their businesses and 45 newspapers defended it, what is that called, can you tell me?’: Khachatur Sukiasyan is in parliament

January 24,2020 20:13

Businessman Khachatur Sukiasyan is in parliament. When asked why he went, Sukiasyan said that he missed the potato patties. Sukiasyan went to Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan’s office. Alen Simonyan said that Sukiasyan was there to gain experience, but Sukiasyan claimed that he was really there for the potato dishes.

Aravot Daily asked him about how he invited Serzh Sargsyan to the opening of the Rossia Mall after he criticized Sargsyan, and they were seen smiling at the event. Sukiasyan said, “First, Khachatur Sargsyan does not look at Armenian citizens as individuals, but he respects and accepts the institution. I am speaking about the presidential institution in Armenia. You respect the institution regardless of who is in office at the time. Now we will look at the behavior of the individual since they are the representative of that institution.”

When asked about how he didn’t want to keep the authorities in one place as a businessman and if that was why he collaborated, Khachatur Sukiasyan said, “Listen, if I were to keep them under one roof, I would have had a normal relationship with them. I did not have any relations with those people from the end of the 90s until now. Of course, they didn’t do anything to me, but they always created problems. We all know very well what they did.”

As far as what they did, Sukiasyan said, “Everything.” When asked why he never mentioned it, Sukiasyan said, “If your brother, wife, or husband says anything, they will be in harm’s way. Is that normal? And you as journalists would say that, for example, something fell on them instead of someone physically hurting them. This is because everyone else serves them. They deprived 45 people of their businesses and 45 newspapers defended it. What is that called? Can you tell me?”

Journalists asked if it was Serzh Sargsyan who took away the 45 businesses, and Sukiasyan said, “No, let’s think of another official.”

Upon the observation that he invited Serzh Sargsyan to the opening of the Rossia Mall because he was the head of that institution, Sukiasyan said, “Of course, he needed to be present to advertise Rossia Mall because I was in a bad place. He needed to come so that the mall would gain exposure. Because, when he goes places, you come and report about it.” Khachatur Sukiasyan, upon the comment that Sargsyan was used for his business, said, “I didn’t use him, I told him to take the metro. He accepted and came to the event in the metro.”
