The Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy has approved today the following declaration on the Middle East Peace Process:
“The Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy believes that the Middle East peace process must be urgently re-activated to meet legitimate aspirations of both Palestinians and Israelis and bring about long-awaited peace and justice.
Against the background of the new initiative by the US President of a plan “Peace to Prosperity: A Vision to Improve the Lives of the Palestinian and Israeli People”, which has met with sceptical reactions from key international actors, the Committee reiterates that a just, comprehensive and viable settlement of the Middle East conflict must be based on internationally recognised principles, including the relevant United Nations Security Council and General Assembly resolutions. This process must involve both Palestinians and Israelis.
Parliamentarians from Israel and Palestine are encouraged to take advantage of their participation in the Assembly to jointly contribute to the Middle East peace process.”
