“The Prosperous Armenia party will not be participating in the referendum for constitutional changes,” Prosperous Armenia deputy Naira Zohrabyan announced during a briefing with journalists after a session with the political council of Bright Armenia.
She said that this was a unanimous decision between all the members of the political council, regional bodies, and deputies.
Naira Zohrabyan said that the main issue with this process was that the authorities made it political and divided the issue between black and white. Meanwhile, it is unacceptable for Prosperous Armenia to create divisions and barricades in society.
In response to journalists’ questions, Naira Zohrabyan said that they cannot participate in this vulnerable legal process. When asked why the faction did not participate and voice its position with a vote from the beginning, Zohrabyan said, “The activities that took place in parliament did not take a legal path. We presented a suggestion to work with the majority in parliament to bring this issue to the legal spectrum, but our colleagues said that this is not a legal issue for them, but a political one. And it became clear based on our discussions that this is, once again, a black-and-white issue, which is unacceptable for us. That is why the political council made such a decision.”
