Earthquake hits 30 km west from Salmas town, Iran-Turkey border zone

On February 23, at 20:00 local time (at 16:00 by GMT) the RA MES Seismic Protection Survey Seismological Network registered an earthquake at the northern latitude of 38.180 and eastern longitude of 44.420 geographic coordinates (30 km west from Salmas town, Iran-Turkey border zone) with 5.9 magnitude and 10 km depth.

The tremor measured magnitude 8 at the epicenter area.

Earthquake hits were felt in Yerevan (the tremor measured magnitude 3-4) and in the provinces of Ararat, Syunik, Vayots dzor (the tremor measured magnitude 4).

According to “Ria Novosti” news agency as a result of the earthquake there were 9 victims and more than 75 casualties.
