“It was 17-18 years ago when we celebrated my younger son’s birthday with Vazgen. We had a party Vazgen-style,” President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian said about his relationship with Vazgen Sargsyan. He was at the Yerablur military pantheon in honor of Sparapet Vazgen Sargsyan’s birthday.
Vazgen Sargsyan would have been 61 years old on March 5th.
The president did not speak about Vazgen Sargsyan’s role in the establishment of the military, state, and Armenian statehood. He said, “I said a lot in my speech last year. This year, I came to my friend’s grave in honor of his birthday.”
Reporters also asked about the day of the referendum and how there was a lot of criticism surrounding the president’s signature. Armen Sarkissian responded, “Those who are criticizing me have not read the Constitution very well. It is clearly stated in the Constitution that the only thing I need to sign is the confirmation for the day of the referendum. If I don’t sign it, then the day will still be set in place anyways. If critics would read the Constitution, understand it, and think about the situation and the country’s development, then I will be ready to discuss it with them in a meeting. In fact, I even invited a group of critics to the Presidential Residence, but they did not come.”
