“Urgent action is needed to prevent the situation getting even worse, and in order to find solutions the international community must come together,” said Tiny Kox (Netherlands, UEL), opening a current affairs debate today on ‘Recent developments at the Turkish-Greek-Bulgarian borders: how to safeguard human rights?’.
“I welcome yesterday’s meeting between President Erdogan and President Putin. Now the UN should as soon as possible find a way towards a settlement of the Syrian conflict. Only when this terrible war ends will sustainable solutions for refugees become possible,” said Mr Kox.
“Our Council of Europe should also play its role, which is to safeguard human rights,” he concluded.
Sixteen members took the floor during the debate.
