A branch of an international hotel to open in Gyumri: Shirak governor’s explanation

March 10,2020 20:57

According to the governor of Shirak, Tigran Petrosyan, the urban development sector grew by 35-36 percent in 2019 compared to the previous year. This includes road construction and private construction.

“Urban development is not only defined by the construction sector, but by other sectors involving economic activity. At the moment, permission has been granted for dozens of hotels and accommodation businesses to be built in Gyumri. This shows the background that we will be having. There are two or three initiatives in the region that will provide more production power. Some of these are in the agricultural sector, others are in the energy sector, and some involve the correct use of water resources,” the governor said.

Aravot Daily asked Tigran Petrosyan about who wished to build hotels in Gyumri.

“This is an important question. We were also surprised. Most of them are our compatriots- business owners living in the region. Local businesses are active. These are people who provide their houses or their relatives’ homes for rent, but now we have two or three initiatives for hotels with 30+ rooms and pools, which is important for this sector. Now we are negotiating with an international hotel franchise to open a branch in Gyumri. They are simply looking for land,” the governor said.

The governor did not say the name of the brand. He said that they will come and sign a contract, which is when they will reveal themselves.

“They are working in the region. I must also mention that the economic, urban development, and cultural heritage sectors are also at the center of attention,” the governor said.
