Turkey: High Representative/Vice-President Borrell speaks to Turkish Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu
High Representative/Vice President Josep Borrell and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held a phone conversation on Tuesday on the immediate follow-up to the EU leaders’ meeting with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that took place day before in Brussels.
They focused on the implementation of the EU-Turkey Statement from 18 March 2016, as mandated by the leaders. Their discussion builds also on the High Representative’s visit to Ankara last week, where he had first exchanges with the Turkish leadership and on the discussions with EU foreign ministers during their informal meeting, Gymnich, in Zagreb on 5 March. They agreed to stay in close touch and continue their discussions in the coming days.
