March 13,2020 17:10

In response to the request from the Armenian Ministry of Health and the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Armenia Fund Inc (US Western Region affiliate of Hayastan All-Armenian Fund) has sent a vast number of preventive, protective medical supplies and devices to Armenia to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus  COVID-19 and maintain control if an outbreak does occur. The supplies totaling over 1 ton include protective medical gowns, face respirator masks, hand sanitizers, bottles for disinfectants, eye shields, digital thermometers and other items.  This initiative was launched thanks to the close working relationship with Chevy Chase Surgery Center and the Armenian Relief Society charity organization.

On February 28, the first case of the virus was recorded in Armenia with a further 6 confirmed cases announced on March 12th. The World Health Organization has declared the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 a pandemic. The Ministry of Health is taking all necessary measures to prevent the potential spread of the virus in the country.

“We are pleased with our continued effective cooperation with the Ministry of Health. Thanks to the extensive efforts of the Fund’s affiliate in the US Western Region, we have secured the swift delivery of the necessary supplies to Armenia,” says Haykak Arshamyan, Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s Executive Director.

The Fund implements a wide range of healthcare projects in Armenia and Artsakh. In the last five years through the Fund’s Medical Mission, healthcare teams from the US have visited hospitals in Armenia and Artsakh to carry out complex surgeries, consultations, check-ups and provided innovative equipment and medicine to a large number of beneficiaries.

The Hayastan Fund also supports the newly established Health for Armenian initiative through its crowdfunding platform on the newly launched website. The cooperation aims to provide high quality primary care services in remote areas of Armenia and promote rural medicine.
