Torosyan responds to woman from Ejmiatsin blaming doctors: ‘They did not open the door when doctors came, they said that everything was fine when called’

March 19,2020 21:35

Masks are meant to protect against particles from coughing and sneezing that may contain viruses. The Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan spoke about this during a discussion on the lack of face masks and how to use them properly. According to him, these masks need to be changed every 3-4 hours. “Not changing your mask is more dangerous than not wearing a mask at all. This is especially true for masks that are not made of the appropriate materials. Viruses, microorganisms, and dust may gather on masks. Therefore, it is important to either use masks properly or not at all. It is also important to wear airtight glasses when coming into contact with an infected person. The virus can spread via the eyes, not to mention via the hands and mouth. It is important for ill people and healthcare professionals to wear masks when at the hospital.”

The minister said that three million masks will be imported, but there are still one million masks available on the market.

When asked about how busy the Nork Infectious Hospital is and if there is a lack of specialists, Torosyan said that the Infectious Hospital is working at its capacity. However, they have been able to transport some patients to other hospitals so that new patients can be accepted. He also said that a new modular reception unit is being built onto the hospital, which will help to ease some of the burden. According to the minister, the doctors are working hard, but there are no better doctors in the country. So, they are giving each other breaks by taking each other’s shifts.

Responding to the interview given by the woman from Ejmiatsin who participated in the engagement (The interview has been removed from Iravunk’s website), where she denied that she knew she was infected and hid that fact, Torosyan said that the facts of the case have already been disclosed. “I don’t know what information you are sharing with me now. There were times when doctors visited and she did not open the door. There were times when she responded to calls with, ‘Everything is fine, do not call me again.’ But now we have a situation that everyone is already familiar with.”

Regarding the child who was infected with the coronavirus, Torosyan said that all the children who were quarantined are feeling fine. “If we did not test them and the child remained home and took fever medication, it is possible that we would not have known about the infection. But the issue here was that we needed to eliminate the pandemic by testing the child and quarantining every person who came into contact with him.”
