Yerevan has ‘quarantined’ itself

March 20,2020 18:49

It has been four days since a state of emergency has been declared in Armenia, which will continue until April 14th at 17:00 local time. The coronavirus pandemic has spread across the world. Many countries have declared states of emergency and limited air and land communication with other countries. In countries where the outbreak of the virus has been more severe, the free movement of people has been limited and under control.

Even in the most populated and dense parts of the capital city, there are few people these days. It seems that people have listened to the requests of the authorities and are quarantining themselves as much as possible. They are working from home and limiting socialization, which is why Yerevan is mostly empty.

These are photos of streets that were congested with traffic once upon a time at different hours of the day. They were impossible to pass, but now there is no traffic.

The same can be said about food courts. There were always lines, but nowadays, the pavilions are empty and there are few visitors.

Fast food booths are not empty due to the fact that people are buying whatever they can, but instead because they do not make much food as there are few customers.

Some pharmacies are also adapting to the situation. They have reorganized their shelves and placed the shelves close to the entrance so that customers can enter individually instead of in groups.

The constitutional referendum was also canceled and postponed. The “Yes” movement is also being quarantined, so the referendum posters have also remained empty.
