The National Assembly unanimously adopted the draft amendment to the Criminal Code and Code on Administrative Offenses during the second reading, which expressed that people who breach self-isolation and quarantine orders during the state of emergency will be held accountable.
Those who violate self-isolation and quarantine orders will have committed an administrative offense. If another individual becomes infected as a result of not following orders, it will be regarded as a criminal offense. If the infection causes severe damage to a person’s health, such as complete dysfunction of an organ, then the person responsible will be fined between 500,000-700,000 AMD and imprisoned between 1-3 months or 2 years maximum. However, if the individual’s negligence causes someone else’s death, they will be imprisoned for 2-4 years and removed from their job or position.
117 deputies voted in favor of the amendment.
The Speaker of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan called upon his colleagues to organize their work at once so that the amendment can be signed and sent to the President of Armenia for his signature.
