“If a country makes a decision that we do not approve of, it means that we have some flaws to consider. Or, we did not explain to them what we needed to, or we provided them with the wrong arguments. We did not follow up with those countries and we allowed our enemies to work better than us,” the president of the International Center for Human Development, Tevan Poghosyan, told Aravot Daily.
The Trump administration made a decision to cut funding for the demining program in Artsakh.
According to Tevan Poghosyan, it is important to understand what caused this and how Armenia can change America’s mind. He believes that Armenia needs to prove to the US that it will make the respect of its local Armenian community a priority when it carries out humanitarian projects in Artsakh. Armenia needs to change its approach while taking into consideration these ideas. Poghosyan noted that, according to posts on social media, the USA will try to support peace programs that are one-sided.

Poghosyan said, “We need to discuss the issue of what we need to do so that our interests are not trampled upon. The two Armenian sides- Armenia and Artsakh, need to explain that one-sided projects will no longer be acceptable, and if there is any country or institution that wishes to carry out democratic and diplomatic programs, they can only be in favor of Artsakh, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.”
When asked if the upcoming elections in Artsakh can change the recognition process, Tevan Poghosyan said, “There may be changes in the US recognition process if Armenia and Artsakh work in that direction. We need to establish this supply within our policies and approaches, which will allow the US to say that anything done for Armenia and Artsakh is in America’s best interests.”
To summarize, Tevan Poghosyan said, “We needed to create an Armenia-US relations agenda that also would have interested the US.”
