During a Facebook live video, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the enforced restrictions need to continue for at least 10 more days. This is so that the number of patients who need intensive treatment will not increase so much that the Armenian healthcare system will be overwhelmed and, as in other countries, doctors will be forced to put hospital beds on the streets and under trees.
“As I said before, my dear compatriots, part of society is panicking, but the other part of society isn’t at all and they are not taking this situation seriously. I am asking you to please take this seriously. You can see the situation that we’re in today. The majority of our citizens who have had positive test results- 424 of them- do not even have a fever right now. But, on the other hand, 97 people- actually, around 90 people- have pneumonia and 30 of them are in critical condition.”
