Arsen Torosyan: ‘It will take a long time to break the bonds of the coronavirus’

April 10,2020 22:05

Over the last few days, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases has relatively decreased, which is a result of the state of emergency and the national lockdown that has been put into effect over the past two weeks.

The Minister of Health, Arsen Torosyan, spoke about this during a press conference. However, the decrease in cases does not mean that people need to be careless. As the minister said, there are now more sources of the spread of the virus that are also in different locations. “The coronavirus can spread across Armenia and we need to be careful. It will take a long time to break the bonds of the coronavirus.”

According to the minister, one of those reasons is due to the long incubation period. It takes a long time for the individual to show symptoms, and they may not show any symptoms at all.

Torosyan said that it is still too early to draw conclusions. “We need to stay careful and maintain our course of action. We need to do this on a more widespread basis- confirming cases, tests, treatment, and isolation- until a medicine or vaccine is released.”

The minister believes that Armenia needs to extend its state of emergency. He already suggested this to the head of the State of Emergency Command, but this decision is up to the commander.

Torosyan said that the goal now is to be able to control the virus so that the healthcare system will be able to treat patients adequately. It will be a disaster if doctors are unable to treat large numbers of patients.
