EU NEIGHBOURS. On 3–4 March, independent regulators and the broadband expert working group of the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network met in Belgrade, Serbia, to agree on a methodology for assessing the independence of regulatory authorities.
The meeting gathered representatives from the EU Member States, the six Eastern partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine) and Serbia. Participants presented their ongoing projects on broadband development.
The newly adopted methodology is developed under the EU4Digital Facility. It will help Eastern partner countries to establish an independent national regulatory authority (NRA) for electronic communications, where such body is not in place. The methodology will also serve as guidelines for assessing the independence of existing NRAs.
