The government made a decision to allocate 90 million AMD to the Ministry of High-Tech Industry to research, plan, and establish marketing strategies for medical ventilators. The Engineering Association will receive the money within the first six months of 2020.
The Minister of High-Tech Industry, Hakob Arshakyan, noted that the ministry expressed its willingness to help in the fight against the coronavirus by researching and planning for production of ventilators. The ministry received 300 applications and offers.
The minister said that, as a result of this decision, they will have the opportunity to satisfy the demand for ventilators. According to Arshakyan, it will be possible to produce ventilators within 4 to 6 months and have working equipment. “In this case, the machines will be worth half the market price. We will be able to produce 40-50 ventilators every month. At the moment, there is a demand for more than 880,000 ventilators worldwide due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is also an opportunity for Armenian engineering companies to enter the market for production of medical equipment, which is a very small and serious market.”
