Prosperous Armenia deputy Gevorg Petrosyan and unaffiliated deputy Tigran Urikhanyan were issued warnings by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan. A commotion took place, after which it became clear that Urikhanyan had a mask. “You have a mask, Mr. Urikhanyan? I couldn’t see it. Very good. Gevorg Petrosyan has been issued a warning,” Ararat Mirzoyan clarified the decision.
Mirzoyan announced on Tuesday that deputies who are not wearing masks in parliament will be warned, and if the need arises, they will not be allowed to enter parliament for a few days. Ararat Mirzoyan said that the State of Emergency Command’s decision to wear masks indoors must be enforced.
Later, Tigran Urikhanyan took his mask off as he approached the podium and said that it is necessary to wear masks as it is simple logic. “I think discussions about whether or not wearing a mask is necessary are completely useless, as well as discussions about the punishment for not wearing one. Naturally, no one can prevent a deputy from carrying out their duties without the proper legislation. Wearing masks is mandatory and I welcome the fact that we need to serve as an example to our citizens, but not from the podium, where we are standing 15 meters away from one another.”
Ararat Mirzoyan had previously said that the microphone on the podium could also potentially carry the virus.
